Getting Started

NEW TO DUNING?

Just getting into the sand? Here's everything we wish we'd known on day one — what to build first, the gear you can't ride without, and where the best dunes in the country are waiting.

WHAT I'D PICK FIRST

The order I'd build a UTV in. Safety and traction before power and looks — every time.

01

Paddle Tires

Hook up in the sand. Without paddles you are just spinning — this is the first thing that actually puts power to the ground.

02

Cage

Safety first. A proper aftermarket cage protects you and your passengers before you ever twist the throttle.

03

Lights & LED Whips

See and be seen after dark — and stay legal on the dunes. Whips are required everywhere we ride.

04

Turbo Upgrade

Once you can ride and stop safely, add the power. The IBEXX Duner 2.0 turns the Pro R into a rocket.

05

Wrap

Make it yours. The graphics are the finishing touch — function first, form last.

WHIP FLAG REQUIREMENTS

Every dune we ride requires a whip flag — no exceptions. Carry your own; do not count on rentals at the gate. All three areas share the same rule:

St. Anthony's

Idaho

Glamis (ISDRA)

California

Little Sahara

Utah

  • ▸8 feet minimum height from the ground to the flag
  • ▸6" × 12" flag — red or orange only
  • ▸St. Anthony's also requires a spark arrestor
Where We Ride

OUR FAVORITE DUNES

From Idaho to the Mojave — these are the sand playgrounds we keep coming back to. The gold pins are our home dunes; the rest are absolutely worth the road trip.

St. Anthony's Sand Dunes

Idaho · Home Dunes

Our home dunes in the summer. Towering white sand, technical climbs, and some of the best riding in North America.

Glamis (ISDRA)

California · Home Dunes

The mecca. We ride here every winter — endless dunes, big gatherings, and sand as far as you can see.

Oregon Dunes (Coos Bay)

Oregon

Coastal dunes running right up to the Pacific Ocean. A bucket-list ride with a completely different vibe.

Little Sahara

Utah

Central Utah's sand playground — great for a long weekend with the family.

Sand Hollow

Utah

Red sand and warm water right next door — ride the dunes and swim in the reservoir in one trip.

Dumont Dunes

Nevada

Remote Mojave dunes — quiet, raw, and worth the drive for those who like it off the beaten path.
